I've always loved to read. In fact, I loved it so much I decided to major in English in college. Now that the kids are back in school, there's a lot of reading going on at our house. I don't have as much time to read these days as I did back then, but I still love to snuggle up with some hot chocolate and good book when the weather gets chilly. It's beginning to look a lot like reading weather here in Seattle, so here are a few bookmarks to keep you, or your kids, in the right spot.
Book Club Book Mark
I have been making bookmarks for my book club the last few years with a list of the books we selected for the year glued to the back. This year I decided to make the list the center of the bookmark by slipping it down in a little pocket. To make the pocket, cut a strip of patterned paper 2.5" x 10.5". Punch one short end with a decorative edge punch, then fold up about 3.25". Punch two holes on the outside edges of the folded up side and thread a piece of ribbon through them. Tie it in the front. This will hold your folded edge in place to create the pocket. Print your book club's book list on a piece of card stock and slip it in. You could even keep the same bookmark each year and just replace the list.
Corner Page Holder
This one was made by Jennifer at Lasting Memories. It was on the corner of a thank you card as a little gift--such a cute idea! It's simply a rectangular piece of patterned paper with the points of the long end folded to the middle to meet each other, with a triangle of coordinating paper holding them in place on back. Then she embellished with strips of card stock and a few paper punches.
Jumbo Paperclip Bookmark
I made this cute bookmark card at my friend Anne Beale's stamp camp. It's a stamped flower tied onto a jumbo paperclip with a piece of wide ribbon. Then we attached it to a flat card and slipped it down in a pocket card to hide the paperclip. Love it!
I loved it so much, I took this idea and changed the paper flower for a crocheted flower.
To secure it to the paperclip, I threaded a yarn needle with my yarn and sewed the flower around the paperclip. Easy peasy! We found our jumbo paperclip at Staples.
Ribbon Book Mark
This is another gorgeous bookmark I made at Anne Beale's stamp camp. It is my favorite bookmark I own. It's made with a stamped image attached to a piece of chipboard with a decorative brad. Then a length of ribbon is sandwiched between the chipboard and a piece of card stock (on the back) and glued with Tacky Tape.
I modified this idea with a crocheted flower as well. I just sandwiched the ribbon between a crocheted flower and a piece of felt I had cut out and glued it with Tacky Glue. You could make a bunch of these quick with your stash of crocheted flowers and a bolt of ribbon!
Any of these bookmarks would make a quick and easy gift for a friend who loves to read, or a new reader who has just caught the reading bug!
